National Grid has been using FAT TRUCK® technology to support major infrastructure upgrades at its Rotterdam Substation in New York.
Crews working at the site must operate in wet and soft ground conditions where conventional wheeled vehicles can struggle to travel safely.
The FAT TRUCK® provides a purpose-built amphibious solution capable of carrying personnel and equipment through difficult terrain, including areas with standing water.
The vehicle provides crews with greater flexibility when accessing difficult work areas and can help reduce the need for extensive temporary access infrastructure.
Before the FAT TRUCK® was introduced, crews could sometimes be required to wait for temporary access mats to be installed before reaching certain structures.
Using an amphibious vehicle provides another option for accessing difficult areas while helping crews save time and reduce ground disturbance.
The National Grid project demonstrates how FAT TRUCK® can support utility and infrastructure organizations working in locations where reliable site access is essential.
